Scientific Objectives

In collaboration with our External Science Advisory Panel, we have developed a prioritized list of scientific objectives for the mission. Earth and in 0.38-g, We wish to (a) quantify the magnitude of the following effects as a result of extended exposure to Martian levels of artificial gravity; and (b) compare these effects with those seen in both micro-g and 1-g, wherever possible.

1-  Bone demineralization and, if possible, increased fracture risk
2-  Changes in macroscopic and microscopic bone structure
3-  Atrophy and reduction of strength in major muscle groups
4-  Changes in macroscopic and microscopic muscle fiber structure and composition
5-  Degradation of vestibular reflexes
6-  Changes in microscopic vestibular structure
